How it all started
The Laois Association, Dublin was founded in 1949, the year when the Laois Hurling Team qualified for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final against Tipperary. In 1949 the Hurling Team were unsuccessful and were beaten by Tipperary. However, men and women from County Laois decided to establish the Laoismen’s Association, Dublin to mark that special event in 1949, and the Association has had a continuous existence ever since.
Our story
Every great journey begins with a story. Ours is no different. Established in 1949, the Laois Association embarked on a mission to foster the origins of Laois people of all traditions and of all ages in Dublin, through cultural, educational, sporting and social contact, developing the traditions of the past while embracing and contributing to the Ireland of the New Millennium.
Our approach
The Laois Association, Dublin has provided a social focus for Laois people living in Dublin for over seven decades with events ranging from dances, quizzes, to inter-county talent competitions and various outings. The Association has also been instrumental in raising significant funds down through the years for various charities such as St. Michael’s House; Laois Hospice, etc., as well as developing a Student Bursary which resulted in funding three Laois 3rd level students in Dublin.
